Minister Gordana Djurovic meets Ambassador Leopold Maurer, Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro

Minister for European Integration, prof. dr Gordana Đurović met today with Ambassador Leopold Maurer, Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro.
Agenda of forthcoming activities in European integration process was in focus of today’s meeting, in light of preparing the EC Opinion on readiness of Montenegro for membership of the EU.
The Government of Montenegro is fully committed to fulfilling the obligations assumed by Montenegro upon entering into force the Stabilization and Association Agreement, said Djurovic, emphasizing the key activities encompassed by the Action Plan, which is being realized and regularly monitored. Furthermore, Đurović repeated that all new regulations, adopted strategic documents, and statistical data are delivered to the European Commission on regular basis. Ministry for European Integration collects and integrates reports delivered by all Montenegrin institutions, including the reports delivered by the Parliament of Montenegro and judiciary as well. Detailed report on reform processes in fulfilling political criteria for accession, following the first sub-committee for justice, freedom and security, held recently in Podgorica, will be delivered by the end of current week, said Djurovic.
In addition, updated data review on progress achieved in field of democratic and economic reforms in the country will be delivered, upon the written request of the European Commission, until the September 6th 2010, the latest, as necessary step in finalization of the Opinion.
Đurović expressed gratitude to Maurer for successful cooperation and assistance that Delegation of the EU provides to Montenegro in European integration process. Support of the EU to the candidate countries and potential candidate countries, which is realized through IPA funds, is of the utmost importance, said Djurovic.
It was jointly stated by Đurović and Maurer that Montenegro, through IPA programs, realizes important projects that encourage development of administrative capacities, strengthening of market economy, adoption of European standards in various policies, as well as strengthening of regional cooperation and good neighbouring policy. It was agreed, during the meeting, that regional cooperation represents significant dimension and precondition for progress towards membership of the Union. Expected opening of the Regional School for Public Administration (RESPA) in Danilovgrad is proper affirmation of regional cooperation on the path towards the EU.
Montenegro has achieved significant results on its path towards EU, said Maurer, expecting at the same time that this dynamic will continue in the period to come, which will provide Montenegro with the EC Opinion on the autumn, than candidate country status for full-fledged membership of the EU and it will be a basis for preparation of all necessary structures for EU accession negotiations.
It is jointly concluded that there is strong political will in Montenegro for European integration process, and that a lot has already been achieved in process of acceding to the EU. Both Djurovic and Maurer agreed that year 2010 is extremely important for further integration dynamic of Montenegro and affirmation of the enlargement policy in the Region.
